Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Jawad Zarif, highly praised Speaker of the House Nabih Berri’s “substantial” role electing a new Lebanese President and forming a new cabinet.
Zarif’s words came during a visit to the House Speaker in Ein Teeneh, where the latter hosted Zarif over lunch.
“The role that Speaker Berri played last Monday at the House of Parliament’s presidential election session, and his ongoing efforts to help form a new national unity cabinet, are both essential and fundamental, not to mention take into consideration the best interest of all the Lebanese sides alike,” Zarif said.
The Iranian Minister also expressed his country’s wish to witness harmony and agreement among the different influential political forces nationwide.
“We hope to witness the birth of a new cabinet real soon,” Zarif added, making clear that his visit to Hariri emanated from Iran’s new future vision. He also expressed belief that Lebanese-Iranian relations would witness amelioration at all levels.
As for a likely visit by Prime Minister Saad Hariri to Iran, Zarif said, “God willing he will.”
